Mercury Retrograde. Two words that strike fear in the hearts of so many. While it’s true that things tend to go wrong during this period, if you know what to expect you can be prepared and make it through with relative ease.
Mercury rules communication, and during this time anything involving communication can go a bit haywire. E-mails and text messages don’t go through, calls on your cell phone are dropped, even your social media can be affected during this time! Misunderstandings due to miscommunication may arise, so be sure to communicate clearly. First and foremost, proofread everything before you send it to make sure you’re really saying what you mean. When talking to someone in person (or on the phone), summarize what they’ve told you to make sure you understood correctly. The same holds true if you receive an e-mail or text that could be taken two ways. Clarify or you may find yourself in a messy situation due to a misunderstanding!
Travel may also be disrupted during Mercury Retrograde. Flights may be cancelled or delayed, cars may have mechanical problems, traffic can cause delays in getting where you’re going…you get the picture. Allow yourself extra time, “just in case”. Check flight statuses before heading to the airport to make sure your flight is on time and verify your gate number when you check in, in case it’s changed. Have your car tuned up and make sure it’s in good working order. This is not the time you want to deal with repairs!
Mercury Retrograde is actually good for some things. Now is a good time to re-do, revise and revisit anything you may have started in the past. Tie up those loose ends you’ve been meaning to get around to. It’s a good time to reconnect with people you haven’t seen or spoken to in a while (careful with that communication though!). It’s also a good time to clear out the clutter in your life. Clean out your closet, your desk, your filing cabinet. Release anything that no longer serves a purpose for you. When things are moving forward again you’ll be glad for that extra space in your life!
It’s not a good idea to start new projects, make travel plans, sign business deals or contracts or make major purchases. However, life doesn’t sit still for Mercury Retrograde, so if you must do any of these things be sure to read everything carefully, especially the fine print, and do your research. Allow extra time for travel. And, most of all, take a deep breath and relax. Just go with the flow, it’ll be over before you know it and things will return to normal in a few weeks!
